Hello, and thank you for shopping at Culture Prodigy. I would like to take this time to tell my supporters and those also interested in this site, more about Culture Prodigy. Here I will share with you what inspired the creation of this site, about the owner, and the purpose of our being.

First about myself, the creator of Culture Prodigy. I am 29-years old and I am from the west bank of the city of New Orleans. I grew up in a small town. A town where not much is expected of it and often overlooked. Here, my siblings and I, were raised by a single mother, loaded into a one bedroom 500 square feet apartment. Growing up, my mother worked tirelessly to support us, so money was dedicated to what we needed; not to things most kids enjoyed like toys and video games. So I would draw pictures of all my favorite characters from television shows on paper, cut them out, and pretend like I really had them. We were what I call "abundantly broke,"(LOL) and when you don't have much one tends to get real creative. This is when I discovered that I had artistic abilities.

Next, the inspiration for name Culture Prodigy.  In my community, Growing up I never heard many conversations about black culture. I only seen on television what I thought African culture was, but it didn't reflect who I was. I felt like black culture was put in a bubble that consisted of only crime, music, sports, and oppression and I wasn't making any artwork that only consisted of those things. I wondered if there was anyone else who felt the same as I did? So, wanted make clothing that reflected something different than what's usually see. But more importantly, show people that its alright to like something different, because globally African culture is different and there is nothing wrong with liking that. 

A prodigy is a person with exceptional abilities . In this city like many others, there are people with potential, but that potential isn't always fostered. Life has way of forcing people to conform to society's expectations. Bury your talents and settle for unfulfilling careers for the sake of survival. I don't consider myself a prodigy but there may be someone out there who feel like they are doing what I'm speaking of; wasting their potential. So when you shop on this site my message is to all whose wearing is to not conform. Don't hide your talent away. Nurture it, because its what make you unique and its the only thing that will give you true prosperity.
